Of all the environmental factors that affect wine storage, humidity is the one most often overlooked. Temperature tends to get all the attention, and for good reason, but humidity plays an equally important role in keeping your collection safe over time.
The ideal range for wine storage is between 50% and 70% relative humidity. Too far below that and you risk cork shrinkage, which lets oxygen in and accelerates oxidation. Too far above and you create conditions where mold can grow on labels and, in severe cases, on corks themselves.
